So just like in the states, this weekend was a holiday weekend. All the banks (and therefore basically everything else) was closed for 'Spring Banking Holiday' yet we still had class, most unfortuante.
This weekend was full of adventuring around London. Friday morning, I went to the British Museum which was so cool and HUGE! My favorite exhibit by far was about jewelry designer Elsa Peretti http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Category.aspx?cid=288187&mcat=148206 Let's be honest, anything that comes in a little blue box is amazing, and learning about her inspiration and design was fascinating.
Saturday was a day full of shopping at Covent Garden, a very cute little area with tons of shops. I have found some great london clothes and jewelry including a couple dresses(!!!) and an adorable necklace. I am starting to look more London with each passing day. A major achievement was that we are no longer bothered by people handing out fliers to tourists!
Sunday was very 'Sunday in the Park with George' (coming to Marquette's Helfear Theatre in April of next year by the way). I went to Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens. There is a statue of Peter Pan (Sorby would be so proud). And fun fact of the day it was built near when J.M. Barrie met the Peter he eventually became so fascinated with that he wrote the story about (think Finding Neverland). I also went to the Princess Di memorial. THE COOLEST THING EVER! If it ever becomes neccessary to build a memorial for me, please model it after this (aka: Erin, forget the staue of me with my tg nametag pointing because this was way better) http://www.jimbosrealm.net/spgm/gal/UK_2006/Princess%20Diana%20Memorial.jpg
So look at that picture, now imagine kids playing in the water and adults walking around in it: practical because it is refreshing, and also active and bringing people together. Such a perfect testiment to Princess Di.
Today I only went to class... lame I know, but I needed a break from walking around. The fact that our streak of perfect rainless weather is over did not help either. But no fear I found a trench coat so this time I am ready!!
Tomorrow, we are going on a field trip (just like in grade school and i am pumped) to Ketchum PR, winner of tons of awards. They have awesome clients including Ikea, Kodak and FedEx.
Life lesson of the day: subway in london does in fact NOT have provalone cheese and chicken bacon ranch with american just is not as good.
Happy Memorial Day!
Becky
